Lilongwe is the main airport serving Malawi and is situated 25Km north of the capital Lilongwe on a tar road. There is no public transport to or from the airport but taxi drivers will offer their services to you vociferously on arrival. This is a very basic but functional airport handling no more than 5 international flights a day and straining at that. There are never more than three of the dozen or so check in desks operating and no queuing system is obvious. There is one departure lounge with a bar that is occasionally open. The arrivals area features efficient immigration controls one very worn luggage belt and lots of searching areas in the customs section. Decent and cheap car park, good security with lots of police patrolling the airport at all times. No information screens or any modern technology, generally friendly staff as long as you have all the right paperwork.
