Cibao International Airport Reviews (6)
100% corrupted. Wish I can give less than one star. Literately kidnaped my kids over $60 dollars of some tax fine that they charge once you pass 30 days there. According to inmigration/ aduana. It was $55 per kids ($165 for 3 kids) once you pass 30 day. My mom only have $120 on her so my kids missed they flight and spent 13 hrs at the airport. The agent refused to take credit card. She wanted al cash.
My experience with Cibao airport is not the best. My suitcase has been missing everytime I pass through this airport. The first time in February 2015 with Delta Airlines and second time with Jetblue, all flights coming from JFK New York. Since this has happened with two different airlines I am left to suspect the Customs staff at Cibao since the suitcases lost carried gifts for our loved ones. Unfortunately the airline staff in charge of missing luggage are not helpful too.
I flew to STI for a one day meeting. Immigration was quite funny, you have to buy a tourist card for something like 10US$ which then is taken away from you after you walk another 50 yards around the next corner. Leaving was a bit more challenging: everybody stands outside, since it is a very small building. But since the sun was shining it was great, just pretty uncommon to wait in line outside to go through security. But just nothing to compare to any US or European airports, it is more like a regional or local place.
Treated Very Badly
On the 3rd of June, 2009, my wife, Maria Paulk, was returning from visiting her family in Santiago. There were two security people, a woman and a man, at the security station. The man confiscated two jars of "dulce" that had been permitted 10 months previously, but seemed to be contraband now. The woman was very nice and told my wife she could sit nearby and eat it if she wanted too. The man was very gruff and rude and told her she had to get out of there "right now". She told him he had no right to talk to her that way, and he said, "yes I do, this is confiscated and you have to leave here right now". She gave him no reason whatsoever to speak to her that way, he was just throwing his weight around and showing his "authority". Had I been there, I would have kicked his butt and probably gone to jail. There is no excuse for people who deal with the public to act that way. There was no justification in his actions. If the jars were contraband, okay, that’s no big deal, but his rudeness and mean disposition was totally uncalled for and will cause him to get into trouble if he is not careful.
I Love This Place
Cibao International Airport was the best thing that ever happened to Santiago. It’s located right in my hometown. Now I don’t have to travel to Puerto Plata, then drive 1 hour by car to Santiago.

Worse place ever. Corruption from the 1 check up until you get on plane. Wish I can give less than a 1 start rating
