For anyone flying into this airport please be aware that you will be accosted by aggressive taxi drivers from the time you enter the arrivals hall. The guards and police in the airport, none of whom speak English, do nothing to control the harassing activities of the taxi drivers and they are probably receiving bribes from the taxi mafia of Sanya. Drivers are notorious for overcharging passengers, driving by longer, slower routes or stopping to fill up their tanks or change drivers. If you call the company telephone number posted in front of the passenger seat of every cab, no one will answer the phone or they will refuse to take your complaint or investigate the overcharges. Most of the time the driver in the cab is not the authorized driver, whose permit and picture should be displayed in the holder in front of the passenger seat. There is public transport to the city and beach locations of Sanya, but airport authorities have deliberately placed the bus stops in inconvenient locations and there is no information posted in English or Chinese about where the buses stop. The HNA airport bus, which serves most of the hotels, costs 15 RMB and can be caught directly in front of the airport near the parking lot. In order to get there you will have to fight off the swarming taxi drivers who will bodily accost you if you do not get in their cabs. The public bus number 8 goes to the hotels in Sanya Bay, downtown and to Dadonghai. Fares are between 3-5 RMB. The stop is located on highway directly in front of the airport. Taxi drivers will be parked in the bus stop to attempt to force passengers to board their cabs. If at all possible, avoid the taxis in Sanya.
